TO FACE SECONDARY SCHOOL IN A RESPONSIBLE AND MATURE WAY

The lower Secondary School plays a fundamental role in the education of youngsters; it in fact has the task of transforming the child into a more responsible adolescent prepared to face the subsequent stage of his education. A tailored teaching process that takes into account the needs and characteristics of each student, that also deals with the educational aspect, very important at this age, in collaboration with the families.  This permits the attainment of the fundamental objectives for the personal development of the student in all respects.

The curriculum involves two foreign languages, information technology, reinforcement of the English language with an improvement through learning by levels, starting to study subjects in English, physical education and theatre. Possibility of choosing the full programme (40 hours per week) that allows the students, under the supervision of the morning teachers, to develop an effective and efficient study method in qualitative and organisational terms.

OBJECTIVES

  • Independence in taking personal decisions and adopting a responsible approach;
  • Particular attention to the level of learning at the final stages to ensure a subsequent good integration in high school;
  • Development of an adequate study method thanks to a tailored teaching process;
  • Development, improvement and consolidation of the abilities to concentrate, express one’s ideas verbally and in writing;
  • Acquisition of a mastery of cooperative work and digital technologies;
  • Improvement of the abilities of analysis, summary, revision and critical thought;
  • Improvement of the English language to attain a B1 level on completion;
  • Reinforcement of the INVALSI test results above the regional and national average;
  • Development of the awareness of one’s abilities, interests and aptitudes.

EDUCATIONAL TOOLS

  • Classrooms set up as laboratories, with interactive whiteboard (IWB), cabling and Wi-Fi coverage;
  • Digital education and tablet for every student;
  • Computer labs;
  • Multimedia room for meetings, conferences and lessons;
  • External and internal gym.

METHOD

  • Optimisation of the teaching programme to make the time to study each subject in greater detail, attention to the study method, public speaking, visits and trips making use of the resources in the area, for example, the Museum of Science and Technology;
  • Improvement of the English language by teaching with the international method: focus on comprehension and communication;
  • Teaching of English with an organisation by levels so as to allow a correct evaluation for each student with respect to his starting point in relation to the experience in the course of the studies in primary school;
  • Use of “Problem Solving” to train students to use logic;
  • Use of teaching workshops for all subjects;
  • Constant research and application of educational innovation, not just of digital means, so that the teaching methods are always updated and state-of-the art to ensure an education in line with the specific needs of our time;
  • Use of theatre as a vehicle for the development of soft skills.

The timetable involves forty hours per week divided between five days from Monday to Friday: in the morning from 8.15 to 14.00 and the afternoon from 14.50 to 16.30.

*Of which 2 hours of Drama for ten modules from September to December.

Cambridge certification (KET, PET and preparatory for the FCE).

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

  • Educational visits to Milan and other cities of artistic interest;
  • All-day excursions and trips. Destinations of natural or historical-artistic interest are chosen;
  • Adhesion to projects proposed by various entities (ASL, FAI. AMSA, etc.) that operate in the Region of Lombardy. The aim is to promote knowledge and the informed use of cultural heritage in the “citizen in training” and to further analyse issues concerning the health and wellbeing of the children;
  • Ski week during the Carnival;
  • “Integration Programme” week in an English College to improve knowledge of the English language and culture;
  • Qualified meetings on the issue of Social Networks and their correct use;
  • Sports initiatives;
  • CLIL: experimentation of teaching one or more subjects or individual non-linguistic topics in English;
  • Initial Latin course for third grade.
